The land of fire and ice – Iceland.
It is one of the world’s most volcanically active regions but also the site of Europe’s largest icecap. Hence it is nicknamed “the land if fire and ice”.
“Thrinukagigur Volcano”. It’s the only place in this planet where human beings can descend into a volcano and enter a magma chamber. This volcano last erupted about 4000 years ago and the magma had drained out from the chamber.
This volcano is located close to the capital – a half an hour drive to the nearest location wherefrom there was a no motorable road. From there it was a 50 minutes walk through the lava fields to reach the base of the volcano. From the base after getting equiped with the helmets and gears we set for the mouth of the volcano. From the mouth we were lowered down by a small lift to a depth of 400 feet below the earth !!
